In 2010 Rotary Districts 5020 in Vancouver Island and western Washington and District 3770 in Luzon, Philippines agreed to participate in a new program sposored by Rotary International. Both districts were part of a Rotary Foundation pilot project known as Future Vision. One part of Future Vision is the Vocational Training Team (VTT).
VTT is a Rotary Project to encourage the growth and improvement in professions and vocations around the world. Two districts co-operate to bring people from similar vocations together in order for them to learn from one another and improve their professional capacity. It was this program that Districts 5020 and 3770 agreed to participate in.
District 3770 chose to provide professional development for Filipino elementary school science teachers. A team of Filipino teachers was chosen to come to Canada and the USA where they would study at Vancouver Island University and St Martin's University as well as visit schools in the district. A team of teachers form North America was also chosen to travel to Philippines to provide workshops to teachers in their own schools. The focus of these workshops would be science educaion methods including Computer Assisted Learning.
To date there have been difficulties for the Filipino team to get their visas for North America, but our team is planning to be in the Philippines this summer and looking forward to the challenges we will meet.
